#Entitled: Islam and Western Civilization..A Detailed Relationship Not Responsible
#by: maql5katib
Muslims are often accused of being hostile to Western civilization, and that the Islamic religion is a static religion that does not go along with it, and that we as Muslims are stuck in the time of our first glories and could not go beyond it, and that we cry over the ruins on every occasion in which history is mentioned, and the paths of establishing sciences.
However, all of this is inaccurate, and is considered an opinion outside of logic and lacking in objectivity, even if it was uttered by our compatriots who fell dead before the aura of Western civilization, and followed it without thinking, or criticism, or even a simple and effortless analysis.
Islam’s view of Western civilization is a detailed, detailed view, based on our great approach, where there is no legal impediment that forbids benefiting from science, and does not urge us to set up hostility with Western civilization, but we must put it under a microscope to scrutinize it and take what is beneficial and what is harmful. It is worth mentioning here, that benefiting from that civilization is never incompatible with not being fascinated by it, and drumming it day and night as if it were a revelation of a house, as it is full of sins and corrupt introductions that have brought calamities upon humanity. In this article, we will discuss Islam's view of Western civilization, trying to clarify matters, to remove the confusion surrounding this matter.
Islam's view of Western civilization:
First: It should be noted that as Muslims, we see civilization, whether eastern or western, as a means to achieve the will of God, which is worshiping Him, and not as an abstract end in which a person is humiliated to the extent that he turns into a machine to move the wheel of civilization, whether it is based on a capitalist or socialist theory or others.
Second: We distinguish between the scientific, political and philosophical aspects of civilization, and we will talk about each aspect separately.
1- The scientific aspect:
In this aspect of Western civilization enter experimental products, natural sciences, technology, manufacturing, communication and computer systems, and they are pure tools, so that every nation can employ them according to its values without causing any harm. Indeed, this field is no longer confined to the West, as there are other nations that have become proficient in it, such as China, Japan and India. Because these products are derived from the natural laws deposited by God in the universe, they are something in common that are not affected by different religious backgrounds.
It is known that Muslim youth have a great interest in studying medicine, engineering and computers, as it is a well-established stereotype about them. This was referred to by the extremist Francophone, "Muhammad Arkoun" when he said: "We know that most students in faculties of science and technology belong to the fundamentalist Salafi currents - he means Muslims - and that students of mathematics, physics and engineering engage in these currents more than the social sciences and humanities."
All of what we have mentioned confirms the error of saying that Muslims are against acculturation and benefiting from achievements.
The philosophical aspect of Western civilization:
This aspect, including its existential and epistemological questions, and what the major fields of philosophy contain from the concept of happiness, the role and limits of man, the fate of humanity after annihilation, morals and their relativity, and sources of knowledge, all of this is the misguidance of the West more than its correctness. This aspect of Western civilization is dark and full of doubts, and every scientist in it comes up with an idea that destroys an idea before it, which does nothing but increase confusion and confusion, until it leads you to nihilism, where there are no ideas, no beliefs, no reference against which you and humans measure your actions, meaning you become within A whirlwind of incomprehension.
Even if the motto of my disciples in this aspect becomes “It is important to ask questions,” and historians of philosophy are known to say: “Philosophy presents questions more than it provides answers.” What is the use of many questions without answers that calm the soul, and quench the soul of man thirsting for belonging and peace?
Ibn Taymiyyah says in criticizing their questioning style: “The virtue of one of them is his ability to object, slander, and controversy, and it is known that objection and slander are not knowledge, and have no benefit. It is worth noting here that this philosophical aspect is not the advanced aspect of Western civilization.
3- The political face:
This face is considered the grim face of Western civilization. Who among us has not seen the expansionist imperialist policies of the West? whose only concern is to plunder the wealth of peoples, even if this leads to the extermination of all of them. This policy that allows the dropping of morals, covenants, and covenants in order to achieve its interests. And that policy calls for democracy inside only at the best, but outside it is a bloody authoritarian, and history is full of their actions, wars, violations, and political lies that they launched to invade peoples in the hope of their wealth.
In conclusion, I want to say that Islam's view of Western civilization is a critical and evaluative view. Not blindly receptive. We choose what suits our values and our religion, and what serves our humanity. We have our own standards and our own message as Muslims.
